I am pregnant, married, and have two kids. Our income is about 3600/ month. Do we qualify for medicaid?

babyra_ra asked:

My kids are ages 4 and 16 months, and we all live in a small town house, but we are hoping to move soon (I don’t know if that would change us being able to qualify or not). We are also paying off alot of debt: ex $300 last month, over $800 this month, in June it was $1037, etc. So I didn’t know if that would count towards qualifying either. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!! And if their are any other solutions other than medicaid, I’d be happy to hear them also. I don’t want to go through the Health Dept. again!! They were awful to me!! Thanks!!

I’m not really sure either. It should depend on your state and what their guidelines are. I’m thinking for a family of 5 you may be above the cut-off, but like I said, that may change state-by-state. It would be best to check with your local office. That’s the only way you’ll get on Medicaid.

Well an annual income of $43,200.00 does not qualify as low income… it may seem like a little, and I’m sure it’s hard to live off but they’re more worried about people that make less than 30K a year, I believe 33K puts you in the middle class catagory, although I’m not sure if that’s individually or joint?

Maybe you could look into healthy families? That’s supposed to be for middle class families with out insurance, I think?

I honestly don’t think you are. I could be wrong. I don’t know the limit when you are pregnant. I know it is too high after you have the baby. They will ask you what you are paying for but I really don’t think they take it into consideration at all. They will just tell you to cut down on things that are not important. I would fill out an app. and see what happens. the worse they can do is say no!

By your income alone, you do not qualify. I think, depending on your state, for a four family, the income would have to be under 2000.00/mo I’m in michigan, and you have to be REALLY poor to get any help.

Rebudget your monthly expenses. Take out anything you would consider a luxury (cable, home phone or extra cell, eating out, vacations, etc) Budget groceries to $300 a month or less (I did, and I am married with a 5 and 2 yr old and pregnant) We also pay our own ins, have a house pmt and 2 car pmts, and we manage just fine. And I have to pay cash for this pregnancy! Point is, where theirs a will, their is a way.

Your debt does not count. If you make 3600 a month and your rent is $800. In the government’s mind you should have enough money left over to pay for medical bills. I made $7.25 an hour when I got pregnant. When I came back from maternity leave they gave me a raise to $8. As soon as they found out they booted me off medicaid.

I would say apply and see what happens. If nothing else, they will cover you and the baby. I hope they cover the whole family. Our government does not care about helping people when they need it the most, which is stupid.

In the state I live in the income limit for a family of 4 including the unborn child is $55,125 but every state is different, go ahead and apply you will probably get it. (I have it for my pregnancy) look online for your states’s childrens health insurance program

It depends on your state cause my mines is about the same. Go to your local DFACS office and they can tell you right away.
