ized for 2 wks in isolation. i was on IV vancomycin…flagel , flora -Q, etc.that was 1 yr. ago…i have never felt the same since(never felt as good as before c. diff)..but, now my c diff is back…and will re-occur throughout my lifetime. i’m pissed because because not only do i feel miserable physically…but i’m going broke trying to finance my medications AND i do have insurance. the cost of these drugs is crazy! if i don’t take them, i can lose sections of my colon or even die. so now what? i have to live like this? can i sue someone to pay for my meds? my other doctors keep telling me how serious this infection is, but no solutions…so what do we do? 1. never take an antibiotic again for fear of re-activating this 2.just let every infection we get run rampant through our bodies 3. go into unrepayable debt for someting i had no idea i was getting into just to get a tooth filled?

Oh I know exactly what you are going through. I had the same thing happen to me, and I was miserable. it was over a year ago and i had to be on penicillin and clindaycin for an abscessed tooth. I then started have trouble and went to the DR and learned that i had C Diff and went through the same things as you. they done a colonoscopy and we learned i also developed lymphatic colitis. basically the antibiotics kill OK the bacteria in your body to get rid of infections, in the mean time you have bacteria that you need. i have had to take all kinds of meds and watch what i eat since then. and i quit taking my meds due to the cost.
i don’t think you can sue just simply because your body just reacted to the meds at that time and it could have done it any time with any other antibiotics. you could have had to get a different type of antibiotics for strep throat or the flu and it could have done the same thing. i am only 30 right now and i have to live with this for the rest of my life as well. it sucks but i have learned a few tricks. FIRST if you need antibiotics for anything ask for a shot instead of pills. it wont affect you. SECOND yogurt lots of it. every day if you can, it helps put the bacteria your body needs back in there. i have suffered a bit but the yogurt really helps more than meds did. the only time i take meds is if i have the secretions and i only get a 15 day supply that way i don’t have to pay as much and after about 7 days of meds and yogurt my body gets back to normal. also increase your fiber, eat lots of nuts and popcorn and whole wheat foods when you can.

I am sorry that you are suffering with this it is a life changing thing to happen to you. C. diff is mainly transmitted oral/fecal route, although the use of clindamycin killed off the good bacteria in your gut and this is why the c.diff thrived, it is not how you contracted the c.diff virus because you were on clindamycin is how it came out. Sadly, there is no way to know what is dormant in our bodies and it takes a freak thing like this to happen to discover it, so having a tooth filled did not cause the c.diff, it was actually discovered when you were on the antibiotics. Unfortunately, you are faced with major emotional, physical and financial issues as a result of this, but it is not the cause of negligence on the part of your dentist. There is no way of knowing that you had c.diff prior to being prescribed clindamycin. It is an antibiotic that is used in dentistry, especially if there might be a penicillin allergy. So as far as suing your dentist, that is unwarranted. I would motivate you to contact your insurance company, many, such as Tufts help you manage illnesses and may be able to help get you in contact with pharm companies who may be able to help you with cost of medications.
I am sorry that my advice is limited, it is a difficult situation and it saddens me that you are going through it. The only other piece of advice I may pass on is this, if you were a smoker and perhaps quit and found this to have happened, there is a direct correlation of tobacco use that actually prevent colitis. I have a patient that this happened too, he quit smoking and he had a major bout of ulcerated colitis and after enduring almost 3/4 of his colon being removed and being on the bag and then having the reversal, he started smoking again to help him deal and the colitis settled down. I am in no way endorsing tobacco use, I am just mentioning it to see if you may have experienced the same thing.
I will pray for you and hope you find relief as well as peace with your body and hopefully in your heart and mind.
    Good luck
