Why have conservatives now gravitated towards politicians that tend to be undereducated?

I notice that much of the Right has looked towards Sarah Palin – someone who left Wasilla, Alaska 20 million dollars in debt, was for earmarks before she was against it, and the list goes on and on. This woman had to go to 5 colleges just to get a simple Bachelor’s degree. In an age in which issues are complex and require complex solutions instead of just black-and-white hillbilly soundbytes, why have conservatives have turned to the bottom of the barrel rather than conservatives who actually are well-educated and more importantly, have shown results – such as Mitt Romney and the Utah Olympics – bringing it from a complete loss to a gigantic profit, or Newt Gingrich?

Dutch – I think Palin’s involvement in Troopergate as well as firing people like the town librarian (before being pressured to hire her back), reveals her corruptness quite well. Palin is hardly immune.

Thunderstruck she didn’t just struggle to get a college education.. Most people who struggle financially don’t have the resources to move FIVE times just for college. If she was a Democrat, you would definitely not be calling it a struggle that people identify with. Apparently, you fall for identity politics quite easily.

Jacob W, I’m not scared of her. That seems to be a constant refrain against any criticism against conservatives. So I can rightly assume that any criticism of Obama means you’re scared of him? It makes no sense. PLEASE run her in 2012, as it would be liberals’ dream to have her run, based not only her lack of education but more importantly her pride in her ignorance.
Do your thing – Palin is now the cheerleader for the GOP, and uses her former place as governor (a.k.a. a quitter) for political purposes. She’s fair game loser.

If you really must know why Sarah Palin is loved amongst Conservatives, it’s because she’s every American girl. She didn’t come from the elite stock of the wealthy. Yes, she did have to struggle to get a college education. A LOT of people can relate to her for that. Not to mention the fact that it drives Liberals absolutely bonkers that she didn’t just curl up and die like they’d hope she would. That’s why she’s so popular and will probably continue to be.

As it is, I think too many UNQUALIFIED politians get elected regardless of their educational background and there should be a committee set up by the government to go through hearings for each person who wishes to APPLY to the electorial process. DRUG screening, Background checks, Criminal record reviews, Educational qualifications and degrees checked, Job skills reviewed and job history reviews. As it is, anyone who is RICH and POPULAR can get elected to just about any office and it is why you have so many incompetants who whine up getting elected. From all the rappers who have gotten rich lately, I am surprised that they haven’t gotten up the dough to run for Congress, the Senate or Presidency and made this country into a haven for dope dealers. Take my word on it, now that I have said something, it will cross the minds of some of them………..

Cannot stop going after Sarah Palin? That is very revealing. The Left will always tell you whom they fear because they cannot stop attacking, degrading and ridiculing that person. Seems to me I heard all of this before, let me see now, when was that? Oh yeah, back in the later part of 1979 and into 1980 when Ronald Reagan’s name was being discussed as a possible Presidential Candidate.
The Left kept attacking, degrading and ridiculing him, too. He was called stupid, dangerously inexperience even a bad actor by the Left. They attacked him for having been divorced, got his children to make all kinds of harsh statements about him. They even claimed he was going to start World War Three.
Then, in November of 1980, he won the Presidency from the very Liberal incumbent Democrat, Jimmy Carter whom the Left lauded as a genius and still keeps promoting. The results of that election? Electoral Votes:
Reagan 489 number of States carried 45
Carter 49 number of States carried 5
Educationally speaking, Carter graduated from the Naval Academy, Reagan from Eureka College.
The Conservatives do believe education is important to a point but it is the character and core beliefs of the candidate that really matter.
Which Republican would the Democrats least like to see run against Obama? The one they attack the most.
