I consulted an attorney re: filing a chap 7 and was told it may not be a good idea based on the value of my home. They used the website Zillow.com to get the estimated value of my property. My property was given a range of $303k to $390k, with a estimate of $349k. This value would put me over the CA equity exemption amount of $75k. Is this a reliable valuation? I am hoping to avoid the trustee questioning the value and forcing me to sell my home to pay off debts. Any suggestions on where to get a value that can be used? County tax assessed value? The assessed value is considerably lower than the value found on Zillow. Appraiser? I don’t have the cash to dish out for an appraisal but would rather be safe than sorry. Also, another attorney said that the value of my home shouldn’t have changed much since I purchased a year ago and that we could use the purchase price. I get the feeling he’s misleading me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I’m can’t afford full coverage insurance anymore and I’m not giving back car…I can trade cars with friend. they wont find….but when they Sue could I go to jail if I don’t pay settlement or can I file bankruptcy …

I talked to my recruiter and he said Navy would still enlist people who filed bankruptcy but will likely get hard time getting security clearance…i am okay with jobs w/o clearance anyway. My question is after i file Bankruptcy would they still processed me in MEPS while waiting for my court order to be discharged on my debts or let say after i get processed in MEPS then i file my bankruptcy while waiting for bootcamp? (am i allowed to do that?) Theres no way i can avoid filing bankruptcy and i really want to join the navy as soon as possible. Thanks

The next generation was running up credit cards and declaring bankruptcy to avoid the debt. Next came the law suit pigs looking for their quick payday with a bogus lawsuit. I am trying to help a family memebr avoid bankruptcy and her situation is dire . She lives in an area where the real estate market has stalled out . Her primary residence has a huge payment plus two home equity loans . She has a smaller house that she had been renting out just to make payments . The tenants moved out with no notice . Each month she gets deeper into debt . If she were to sell either house she would still be upside down on the loans . She is at a point where she is not able to pay the larger loan . What will happen to the two equity loans if she goes into foreclosure ? Her credit is already pretty well destroyed .

CA has always spent frivolously, but with the economy at its current state, people are saying CA is about to go bankrupt.

Would it be a bad idea for me to move to the LA region to attend graduate school? It’ll be 4 years of my life, and I may possibly stay there after becoming an optometrist. Should I just avoid CA all together? How will CA’s financial status affect me personally?
