I know I could get my credit score but it costs money and many of you are knowledgeable enough to help me out for free!

I’m only 19 but I want to get a car loan soon. I am wondering how bad off my credit is – I know it isn’t good. Here’s my history, in order of how it happened:
* I applied for and was denied a Gap card.
* I applied for and was approved for a Bank of America student credit card. I had a $500 limit. I carried a $200-350 balance for about four months. I paid the minimum or more on time every month. Then I paid it completely off with two payments and cancelled it shortly thereafter.
* I opened an Ann Taylor Loft card with a $700 limit. I have carried a $200-300 balance since then. I pay at least double the minimum on time every month. I recently cut up the card but I am continuing to pay down my balance.
* I opened a Gap card with a $300 limit. I carry a $200-300 balance on it. I pay at least double the minimum every month. I still use this card on occasion.

* I unknowingly opened a Citibank credit card because the rugby team was doing fundraising on campus. They said I would be sent a credit card offer, not applying for a credit card. I never used this card and closed it immediately.

Okay, so tell me how bad you think my credit is! Also, am I doing the right thing with my two open accounts?
Okay, so after reading some of your answers (Thank you!) I have some questions about my car loan. First of all, I am planning on putting down about $2500 and getting a car that is less than $10,000. Do I still need a cosigner? Should I try to convince my parents to cosign in an attempt to get a better interest rate? Also, I thought I would just get a loan through where ever I buy my car (probably CarMax). How do I go about getting a loan from a credit union? Do I have to have an account there?

The rates I am finding are not as good as I would have hoped, through no fault of my own. I am 24 and haven’t done anything that would have given me bad credit. I pay back all my bills and whatnot.

Am I better off just buying the car outright (I can afford it) or taking out a loan for the sake of taking out a loan. I’ve heard a few times that a small loan really helps your credit.
So put down 5,000, take out the 5,000 loan amount, put 5,000 in a savings account and let the loan cycle? What does that mean.

It just seems it will never happen since I have 6 places to pay a month. One of the places I will be paying off will be my car. Can I put that as collateral? …I dont want to keep applying to different places cause I know that affects banks that look at my credit. I am stressed and broke all the time! Any info will be helpful. Can an individual eliminate credit card debt by declaring bankruptcy? I didn’t think you could wipe it out, just get the bill collectors off your back. But, someone told me that it depends on which chapter of bankruptcy you use. The right one WILL eliminate credit card debt. I know someone who has $80,000 in credit card debt and they are trying to do that to get rid of that debt! Is it really possible? Are there any restrictions in doing this. If you file bankruptcy to eliminate all debt, do you have to give up ALL of your possessions? Will you have anything left?
This is for a friend of mine (really). They don’t own a home. They have 2 cars and some furniture and A 401k plan. Between the two of them they make about $40,000 a year. I don’t see how debt consolidation will help them How could they EVER pay off $80,000!?! They had a house but they used up all the equity in it over the years and sold it recently and broke even on the deal, ending up with NOTHING! What a mess! I just didn’t think they could wipe out their credit card debt! And, it really isn’t fair to the rest of us that pay our bills!
